It looks as though the sensible forecasters were in the forefront this year, when they predicted in the 490-515,000 ton area for this year’s harvest. Even though Cyclone Gabrielle had her wicked way with East Coast vineyards this year, Hawkes Bay’s harvest was only down 4% on last year. Gurjinder (Gary to his mates) Singh who works in WineWorks Auckland cellar had his analysis spot on this year, so is carrying the crinkly $100 around in his pocket today – my guess is it won’t be there for long!
